Funeral service in Munich: moving farewell to Tim Lobinger

At a funeral service, family and friends say goodbye to Tim Lobinger, who recently died of cancer. In addition to Bayern stars Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sané, numerous other celebrities will be among the guests in Munich.

Friends and family said goodbye to Tim Lobinger in Munich on Wednesday. The former pole vaulter lost his battle with cancer on February 16. Around 200 guests attended the funeral service at the Munich forest cemetery, including Lobinger's ex-wife Alina and their son, as "RTL" reports. Among others, Bayern star Joshua Kimmich, who stayed at Lobinger's side to the end, as well as sports director Hasan Salihamidžić, Leroy Sané and Mario Gomez paid their last respects to the deceased ex-athlete.

Some with white roses in hand, Lobinger's confidants and companions entered the mourning hall, as the broadcaster shows. Coldplay's song "Fix You" was played during the funeral service. At the end of the funeral service, those present released colorful balloons into the Munich sky.

The moderators Mareile Höppner and Andrea Kaiser also came to the funeral service. "I think very few know how bad it was for him," Lobinger's longtime friend Kaiser recalled in an interview with the broadcaster. The ex-pole vaulter fought to the end, "never complained, he never wanted to burden others with how he was doing". Lobinger was a "great person" and left an "incredibly great family".
