Half a million people expected at Berlin's Christopher Street Day

The Christopher Street Day parade begins near Potsdamer Platz and is scheduled to end after more than seven kilometers in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The opening speech will be held by Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer (left). On June 28, 1969, police stormed the Stonewall Inn gay bar on New York's Christopher Street. Days of heavy clashes between activists and security forces followed. The uprising is considered the birth of the modern gay and lesbian movement.
