Hesse: 395 elementary and special schools with all-day offers

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In the 2022/2023 school year, a total of 395 primary and special schools in Hesse are taking part in the all-day program "Pact for the Afternoon". According to the Ministry of Education in Wiesbaden, almost 90 percent of the school authorities are represented. Participating elementary schools and elementary levels of special needs schools had reliable and voluntary educational and childcare options available five days a week and during the school holidays.

Parents can choose between at least two time modules - a shorter one until 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. and a longer one until 5:00 p.m., as the ministry explained further.

In the past school year 2021/2022, 46,050 students throughout Hesse were registered in the "Pact for the Afternoon". A total of 103,000 elementary school students were looked after in an all-day profile of the state, which, with the so-called "Profiles 1 to 3", includes other offers in addition to the pact.

For children who start school from the 2026/2027 school year, there should be a legal right to all-day care in primary school in Germany.
