Pfungstadt (dpa/lhe) - Employees and supporters of the traditional Pfungstädter brewery, which may be on the verge of extinction, want to demonstrate this Thursday (3.30 p.m.) for the preservation of the brewery, which was founded in 1831. There will be a protest march from the company in Pfungstadt to the town hall, said managing director Peter Winter. There was a lot of encouragement from the population, the region and from clubs. Winter expects 1000 to 1500 participants. At a city council meeting last week, the majority voted in favor of housing development on the brewery site.
According to Winter, the brewery with almost 70 employees is doing well economically. That wasn't always the case. The company, which was already financially ailing before the Corona crisis, entered protective shield proceedings in 2020 to avert impending insolvency. At that time, the shareholders had given the go-ahead for the sale of the site. At that time there was still talk of a new brewery building at a different location.
