Hesse: Hanau committee in the state parliament advises again on the subject of emergency exits

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The Hanau investigative committee of the Hessian state parliament is said to be dealing with the emergency exit at one of the crime scenes again this Friday (09:00 a.m.). Hanau's Mayor Claus Kaminsky (SPD) is expected to be one of the witnesses. Survivors of the racist attack and relatives of the victims had raised allegations that the Arena Bar's emergency exit had been closed and an escape route had been blocked.

The public prosecutor had stopped their investigations in August 2021. There is no concrete evidence that police officers or employees of the public order office ordered or tolerated the closing of the door, it said.

A 43-year-old German shot nine people with racist motives in Hanau on February 19, 2020. Then he killed his mother and himself. The committee of inquiry should clarify whether there was a failure of the authorities around the crime.

Two experts, two former employees of the Arena Bar, a public prosecutor and the head of the Hanau building authority are expected to appear in the committee as further witnesses on Friday.
