Hesse: Hesse's Minister of Finance for sticking to the debt brake

Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse's Finance Minister Michael Boddenberg (CDU) has spoken out in favor of sticking to the debt brake. In the period between 2016 and 2021, Hesse only had to take on new debts in 2020, said the finance minister on Wednesday during the budget debate in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden. In most other years even debts were repaid. "This is thanks to the debt brake," emphasized Boddenberg. "And that's why I'm not ready to make the debt brake up for grabs without further ado."

In view of the many crises such as the war in Ukraine and the ongoing effects of the corona pandemic, it cannot be said whether this will remain the case in the future, the CDU politician explained. Many questions would have to be discussed in the forthcoming conference of finance ministers.
