"The university budgets do not have the financial leeway to cope with this additional burden," said the deputy chairwoman of the GEW Hessen, Simone Claar, on Monday in Frankfurt. She requested financial help from the state government - both for the universities and for students.
The special payment of 200 euros for students decided by the Berlin traffic light coalition as part of the third relief package at the weekend is "hardly more than a drop in the ocean". The Hessian Ministry of Science said on request that it was "in dialogue with the universities both about various possibilities for saving energy and about emergency plans and scenarios in the event of power failures". Maintaining face-to-face teaching is the top priority for the state government.
