Hesse: Investigations against father of Hanau perpetrators for night position

Hanau (dpa / lhe) - The public prosecutor's office in Hanau is investigating the father of the Hanau assassin on suspicion of reenactment. There is a criminal complaint from a victim's relatives, the public prosecutor's office said on Friday when asked by dpa, without going into the contents of the advertisement. "Further investigations into the incidents are ongoing." Several media had previously reported on the subject.

Serpil Unvar, whose son Ferhat was one of the nine fatalities in the attack, was affected by the incidents. The man showed up several times in front of her house with his dog, also addressed her and asked, among other things, where she came from and why she came to Germany, she said. He also made allusions to Halle. She feels helpless and threatened. She doesn't want to leave the Kesselstadt district because her son lived there with her and she remembers everything about him. She said of her father: "He plays with our pain, he plays with our grief."

Three years ago, a heavily armed assassin carried out an anti-Semitic attack in Halle. A police spokesman said that they were informed about the incidents and had the topic on their screens, but would not provide any further information on the tactical police measures to protect the victims' relatives.

The man is the father of the 43-year-old German who shot nine people in Hanau on February 19, 2020 for racist motives. He then killed his mother and himself. The father was sentenced to a total fine of 4,800 euros in September in an appeal by the Hanau Regional Court for insult in two cases. In a further charge, the court overturned a first-instance judgment of the Hanau district court and acquitted him of the charge of insult.

Among other things, the man had in a criminal complaint described people who had taken part in a demonstration near his home - including relatives of the victims of the attack - as "wild strangers". He was also accused of calling a special task force that was deployed in his house on the night of the crime a “terrorist squad” or “terrorist unit”.
