Hesse: More and more wooden houses in Hesse

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In Hesse, more and more wood is being built. As can be seen from the 2022 progress report of the State Statistical Office, the proportion of new buildings that are predominantly made of wood increased from around 15 to 22 percent between 2000 and 2020.

Wood is more common in residential construction than in commercial buildings. In 2000, 15 percent of new residential buildings were mainly made of wood, in 2020 the share was 23 percent. Non-residential buildings were made predominantly of wood, 12 percent in 2000 and 18 percent in 2020.

For residential buildings, wood was the most commonly used "predominant building material" in 2020 - after brick. For commercial buildings, wood was in third place after steel and reinforced concrete.
