Hesse: OB election in Kassel: SPD counter-candidate for journeyman

Kassel (dpa/lhe) - The Kassel SPD wants to enter the race with its own candidate in the mayoral election in the northern Hessian city next March. The party announced on Thursday night. She was reacting to the announcement by the incumbent Social Democratic Lord Mayor Christian Geselle that he wanted to run as an independent candidate in the mayoral election. This was preceded by a month-long internal party dispute.

According to the announcement, the trade unionist Isabel Carqueville would like to run as mayoral candidate for the SPD in Kassel. The official election for a candidate takes place at an election party conference in October.

Hesse's former justice minister, Eva Kühne-Hörmann (CDU), has already been nominated for next year's election. In addition, Sven Schoeller (Greens) and Violetta Bock (Left) want to move into Kassel's town hall.
