Hesse: Police advise on better burglary protection

Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The number of burglaries in Hesse is declining. In order to continue this trend, the Hessian police are organizing a special campaign just in time for the summer holidays - when houses and apartments are particularly often empty. In addition to the prevention work, increased search and control measures should help to keep burglars away. All seven Hessian police headquarters have been offering advice to citizens since mid-July, whether at information evenings or at information stands at weekly markets or in front of town halls.

In Hesse, a total of 2,039 completed burglaries were reported to the police in 2021 - in 2010 there were more than three times as many. However, the corona pandemic with its consequences is believed to have pushed the number down recently. "In the past two years there have been significantly fewer traveling perpetrators and citizens have been at home more often, which has reduced the opportunities for crime," Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) said recently.
