"School is out!" - it says on Friday. Then there are six weeks off for students. Families planning a flight from Frankfurt should be prepared for waiting times.
Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - For Hesse's students, the last day of school before the summer holidays is on the timetable today, Friday. The children and young people can look forward to six weeks off - if they don't have to cram in one of the voluntary learning camps. There are also special German courses for elementary school students and swimming courses during the long holidays.
To protect against infection with the coronavirus, all children and young people receive five tests to take away from the schools before the holidays so that they can voluntarily test themselves at home in the last days of the holidays and on the morning of the first day of school.
At the start of the new school year at the beginning of September there will also be two prevention weeks in the schools. During this time, all students are offered three antigen self-tests per week for voluntary testing at home.
Families who want to start their vacation by plane this weekend have to be prepared for long queues at Frankfurt Airport. With the start of the holidays in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, the annual records for passenger numbers will almost certainly fall. Airport operator Fraport expects around 200,000 passengers per day on the weekend of July 22nd to 24th.
The hub is currently struggling with a major staff shortage - there is a lack of employees in the ground handling services in particular.
