Hesse: suspected fraud in Corona aid in the millions

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Because of the suspicion of subsidy fraud worth millions in connection with Corona bridging aid, the public prosecutor's office and the police have searched numerous residential and business premises in Hesse. Two tax consultants and one tax consultant from the Gießen district and 21 entrepreneurs from the Gießen and Offenbach districts received a visit from the investigators, as the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor announced on Thursday. The searches took place over several months from June 29 to October 19.

The accused tax consultants are therefore suspected of having provided false information in a large number of applications for corona aid for the years 2020 and 2021 in order to wrongly provide the applicant traders with state support. False invoices from the 21 entrepreneurs are said to have been presented.

The damage is said to amount to up to 3.4 million euros. The payment of a further 7.5 million euros was prevented by controls by the Gießen regional council and the Hessian tax offices. Written documents as well as computers and data carriers were seized during the searches.
