Hesse: Traffic obstructions at the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - Because of the Frankfurt marathon this Sunday, there will be road closures and bus and tram failures. In the Main metropolis, however, there are more subways than usual, as the Frankfurt transport company announced.

According to the organizer Mainova, numerous streets in the inner city area and along the running route in Sachsenhausen, Niederrad, Goldstein, Schwanheim, Nied, Höchst, im Gallus and in the Europaviertel will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. on Sunday. According to the information, the greatest restrictions are in the start and finish area around the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage and the Messeturm. The closures here run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The inner city area around Berliner Strasse can only be left through the theater tunnel until 1 p.m.

Important points of contact such as the main train station, the airport and hospitals can also be reached by car at any time. The organizer recommends switching to public transport if possible. There are no restrictions on subways. On some routes, even more and longer subways are used than on an ordinary Sunday. The situation is different for buses and trams. Here, too, there are restrictions from 6.30 a.m. to around 6.30 p.m.

The starting signal for the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, which will take place again in the Main metropolis after 2019 and a Corona break, will be on Sunday at 10 a.m. The route of the 39th edition then leads past the Opernplatz and the banks of the Main. The finish line is in the Frankfurt Festhalle. The organizer expects around 12,000 runners from all over the world.
