Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The fight against Corona caused health expenditure in Hesse to rise to a high of 33.6 billion euros in the first pandemic year 2020. The total was 6.1 percent above the previous year's value, as announced by the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday. With 70.2 percent, the public budgets recorded the largest increase compared to the previous year to a total of 2.3 billion euros.

The largest source of expenditure was the statutory health insurance with a total of 17.9 billion euros - that means an increase of three percent. The Hessians spent an average of 5,348 euros per capita on goods and services related to health, nationwide this figure was 5,298 euros.
