Today, Thursday March 23, the Catholic Church honors San José Oriol.
He was born in Barcelona and at a very young age he was orphaned. Thus, he joined religious life from the lowest step in view of his situation of economic vulnerability. He first was an altar boy and later he was part of the choir.
His gift for spiritual direction allowed him to continue his studies. He started as a seminarian and later a doctor in the Church.
He stood out for his great humility, but it is said that he had prophetic and miraculous powers. Healings of the blind, deaf, lame and paralyzed were attributed to him.
Also every month he distributed among the poor all his goods. Hence he became known as Doctor Bread and Water.
According to some writings, he died in 1702 while singing the hymn of the Virgin Mary.
The Catholic saints are the group of people recognized by the Church as saints or blessed on a specific date. The Roman Martyrology is the document that names and distributes in the calendar the almost 7,000 saints and blessed recognized by the Church.
The saints and saints are prominent men and women in the various religious traditions for their special relationships with the divinities or for a particular ethical elevation. While the consideration of blessed constitutes the third step on the path to canonization.
