Actually, 2020 is a good year for Lennart Borchert. After all, he got his role in "Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten". Nevertheless, he now sees it as "the worst year of my life". The reason: almost at the same time he was diagnosed with cancer. And that at just 20 years old.
In 2020, Lennart Borchert joined the RTL hit series "Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten" (GZSZ) and has embodied the character of Moritz Bode ever since. But at the same time, the actor went through a personal crisis, as he now reveals in the RTL interview: "It was the worst year of my life."
Just on the day he received the GZSZ approval, he was also told a bad diagnosis, according to the 23-year-old. A testicular tumor was discovered in the actor, who was then just 20 years old. A little later it also turned out: The tumor is malignant.
When he first felt a lump, he didn't think much about it, says Borchert: "Oh, that'll go away. It's just a knot." But his partner at the time urged him to go to the doctor. Three days after the diagnosis, an operation was carried out in which the testicles were removed.
"The bad thing was that it was only then that the diagnosis came that it was a malignant tumor," explains the GZSZ star. He then had to undergo five days of chemotherapy in the hospital. A precautionary measure in case the cancer has already spread.
"When I said I was doing chemotherapy, I came into the hospital room and saw it and said: 'No, I can't do it. Five days here? I can't do it.'" Borchert recalls. He then collapsed and cried. Because of the corona pandemic, neither friends nor family could have visited him in the hospital. "That's a time when you just cry every day." Even without his personal presence in the hospital, his loved ones would have supported him.
The actor also reports that he had to struggle with hair loss as a result. He actually didn't want to tell the GZSZ team about his cancer, but then he "called the executive floor" and explained: "Hey, I have to confess something to you." His illness was a shock for everyone, "but of course everyone understood it". Eventually he shaved off his hair and wore a wig for his role.
Today, by his own admission, the actor feels good. He has been wearing a silicone substitute since the operation. In any case, he wanted to draw attention to the topic of cancer prevention: "Let yourself be examined, let yourself be checked! No matter what, go to the doctor. It's not embarrassing at all," was his appeal.
