Lyon: 5,000 patients called to be tested for HIV

No less than 5,000 patients from the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) received a letter at the beginning of May inviting them to be tested for HIV and hepatitis B and C. All had gone to consult between May and December 2022 at the center dentistry of HCL. Problem: an investigation launched last January noted a possible lack of sterilization of syringes, according to a letter that Le Progrès was able to obtain.

An alert had already been given, after an "adverse event that occurred on December 12". However, the Lyon hospitals want to be reassuring: the mail was sent "as part of the application of the precautionary principle". A specific number has been created for patients.

Le Progrès was able to speak with one of the patients concerned, who has been distressed since receiving this letter. Above all, she criticizes the lack of efficiency of the services: the letter was sent on May 12, received on the 16th, and she was only able to obtain an appointment on May 22... While her first appointment was in September 2022.
