Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: 2500 protesters against energy and refugee policies

Rostock/Schwerin/Greifswald/Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - Around 2,500 people protested in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania against further arms deliveries in the Ukraine war and the federal government's energy and refugee policy. As police spokesmen said on Tuesday, participants gathered in 17 cities on Monday evening. For the first time there were protests in the state capital of Schwerin, where around 150 people gathered under the motto "We want peace and security".

Most of the protest participants came in Rostock with 340 participants, followed by Waren and Neubrandenburg, where a total of almost 500 participants were counted. There were other protests in Pasewalk, Grimmen, Neustrelitz, Teterow and Wismar, among others. In Greifswald, around 500 people protested against the construction of a new community accommodation for refugees next to a school that the Vorpommern-Greifswald district is planning. More than 200 containers for a total of up to 500 asylum seekers are to be set up there. The financing for this was decided by the district council in the evening in Pasewalk.
