Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Art project with mosaic is intended to revitalize the West Pomeranian community

Wietstock (dpa / mv) - An art project funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation is intended to help a small village in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district to live more. As project manager Susanne Burmester said on Monday, a six square meter mosaic picture by the Berlin artist Antje Majewski is being created in Wietstock near Altwigshagen. It is three meters high and shows animals and plants that are important to the villagers. It will be unveiled in a ceremony this Saturday.

In this context, an open pavilion with a solar system is also planned, which will supply energy for the village community center and, with a communal art garden, will become a meeting point for the village. The project, which is being discussed and implemented together with residents, is being funded by the federal government with around 30,000 euros. The state is also supporting the project. Altwigshagen has almost 400 inhabitants, 150 of whom live in Wietstock, and is located west of the federal highway 109 in the north of the Friedländer Große Wiese, one of the largest low moor areas in the north-east.
