Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: energy and refugee policy: 1800 people protest

Rostock/Wismar/Greifswald/Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around 1,800 people protested again for peace and against the federal government's energy and refugee policy. As police spokesmen said on Tuesday, protesters gathered in 16 cities on Monday night. The arms deliveries to Ukraine in particular were criticized and increased diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict were called for. Most of the demonstration participants were counted with more than 300 women and men in Rostock and Greifswald.

In Greifswald there had already been several protests against a planned container settlement for up to 400 refugees in the Baltic Sea district. There was also hostility towards Mayor Stefan Fassbinder (Greens), so that the police gave him police protection after a meeting.

Here, the city representatives want to decide at the end of March whether several smaller communal accommodations should be built at several locations instead. More than 200 people each took part in processions through the inner cities of Neubrandenburg and Waren.
