Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Foundation promotes the preservation of 64 monuments in MV

Bonn/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - More than 60 building and garden monuments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania received financial aid from the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) last year. According to the foundation on Monday, 1.2 million euros were planned for 64 monuments in the northeast. Nationwide, the private monument protection foundation supported 650 objects with around 27.5 million euros last year.

According to the information, the projects of the 2022 Foundation in MV included the manor house in Rossin (Vorpommern-Greifswald district), which was built shortly before 1850. "Here, thanks to the trustee Bläsing Foundation in the DSD, the monument protection foundation provided 20,000 euros for emergency security measures," it said. In the Pariser youth center in Greifswald, the carpentry work on windows, doors and sockets was supported. For the park of the manor house in Raguth (Ludwigslust-Parchim), money from the foundation went into planning for the repair.

According to the information, other funding projects were the Marienkirche in Bergen auf Rügen, the old waterworks in Malchin and the commander's house of the fortress Dömitz. "Each of these monuments represents a unique treasure," says the foundation.

The funding program of the German Foundation for Monument Protection includes private and public monuments such as churches, monasteries, palaces, castles, town houses, technical monuments, archaeological excavations and historical parks. According to the Foundation, it is the largest private initiative for the preservation of monuments in Germany. It's been around since 1985.
