The high season has begun on the Baltic Sea coast and on the Mecklenburg Lake District. Hundreds of thousands of guests will spend their annual vacation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the coming weeks.
Rostock (dpa/mv) - With the beginning of the holiday season in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the high tourist season is now beginning in the north-east. For July and August, the expectations of the companies are an occupancy of 85 to 90 percent, said the managing director of the state tourism association, Tobias Woitendorf, the German press agency.
This means that with a total of more than 400,000 beds in hotels or private quarters and on campsites nationwide, there will be around 350,000 additional people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania every day. "We are now gradually getting to the capacity we need to be able to deal with possible corona-related problems in autumn and winter."
In contrast to the last two Corona years, many guests could drive or fly to the Mediterranean Sea this summer, for example. On the other hand, some travelers may also shy away from the chaos at the airports and spend their holidays, for example, on the Baltic Sea coast or the Mecklenburg Lake District, said Woitendorf.
Possible uncertainty factors this season could be the cost increases in all areas of life. The holiday industry is not excluded from this, compared to the previous year higher prices of currently 10 or 15 percent can be expected, said Woitendorf. The situation for autumn and winter is not manageable, when the massive price increases for energy may have an impact.
