Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: cyclists caught by vans crossing the road

Alt Gaarz (dpa/mv) - In Alt Gaarz (Jabel) in the Mecklenburg Lake District district, a 79-year-old cyclist collided with a van on Sunday and was seriously injured. The man wanted to cross District Road 2 in town. He overlooked a van driving towards him, as the police headquarters in Neubrandenburg announced late Sunday evening. The 41-year-old driver of the van could neither avoid it nor brake completely in time. The cyclist suffered head, arm and hip injuries in the collision and had to be taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. Police say his life is not in danger.
