Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Four championship titles for Schwerin boxers

Rostock (dpa/mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's boxers have completed the German championships in Rostock with four final victories and have been voted the best state association. The three-day title fights in the OSPA Arena ended on Saturday with tournament victories by featherweight Alen Rahimic, Razmik Sargsyan (lightweight), David Gkevorgkian (light welterweight) and Yaroslav Samofalov at welterweight. The quartet comes from BC Traktor Schwerin.

"That worked today. All finalists were in top form," said Schwerin's head coach Michael Timm. Bronze was secured by middleweight Valdislav Hitlin and light heavyweight Zlatko Strauch from Traktor Schwerin.

The Schwerin middleweight Joelle Seydou just missed out on the women's title. She lost in the final to the top seeded Irina Schönberger from Heidelberg. Lightweight Jana Thomas from PSV Rostock won bronze.

"For me, PSV Rostock hosted the best-organized German elite championships," said Erich Dreke, President of the German Boxing Association (DBV). PSV Rostock celebrated the 30th year of its existence this year.
