Heringsdorf (dpa / mv) - The number of scheduled passengers at Heringsdorf Airport has increased. In 2022, more than 7,000 scheduled passengers were counted, the operators of the airport on the holiday island of Usedom announced on Wednesday. The year before, it had been almost 5,000. After the corona pandemic, the Heringsdorf regional airport was able to stabilize again, it said. Before the pandemic, the airport had counted more than 20,000 scheduled passengers in 2019.

The total number of passengers, on the other hand, fell slightly compared to 2021 from just under 14,700 to just over 13,800. According to the airport, it is an important hub for rescue, supply, training and refueling flights and is very popular with hobby and leisure pilots. In total, the tower registered more than 4,900 flight movements in 2022 (2021: a good 4,000).

The scheduled flight season is scheduled to start on April 29th and last until October 28th. Connections to Frankfurt am Main, flights from Luxembourg and flights to and from Kassel are also planned. A connection to and from Mannheim is new. In 2023, among other things, a general switch to a satellite-supported approach is to be made, which will create advantages, especially in bad weather. In addition, the lighting system had recently been modernized.
