Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Liskow calls for an energy debate "without blinkers"

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the debate about a secure energy supply, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's CDU state chief Franz-Robert Liskow spoke out in favor of using all available resources. "We have to use all the potential of the energy supply without blinkers," said the Union politician on Wednesday in Schwerin. Signals from the Greens that the extension of the service life of nuclear power plants can no longer be ruled out are therefore to be welcomed. "In addition to the expansion of renewables, all options must be on the table, including the option of fossil fuels," added Liskow.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had announced that he would increase precautions for the winter in view of uncertain Russian gas supplies. This also means that the lignite reserve should be activated. In addition, Habeck has been pushing for months to reduce gas consumption in households and industry.

In this context, Liskow rejected demands from the left to only impose mandatory switch-off requirements on industry. "Industry is and will always remain a thorn in the side of the Left, unless it has Russian roots," said the CDU politician. Turning off the gas tap in the current industrial crisis in Germany is a massive threat to jobs and prosperity. Liskow called for a master plan for savings in case of an emergency.
