Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - The sharp rise in fuel prices, corona problems and the 9-euro ticket have maneuvered the bus company MVVG (Demmin) into financial problems. As district administrator Heiko Kärger (CDU) said on Monday, the district-owned Mecklenburg-Vorpommersche Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH needs an additional 2.2 million euros by the end of the year.
The state has already approved 1.1 million euros in anticipation of the accounts from the Corona aid fund and the 9-euro ticket. Another 1.1 million euros were promised, said Kärger.
The background is that the district's own bus company cannot adequately raise the fares, he said. Since no settlements have been made by the state and federal government so far, the "liquid funds" are now scarce. Because of the high fuel prices, this also applies to other bus companies, depending on their financial reserves.
The CDU politician is also the chairman of the board of the MV district association. Without financial help, the MVVG management would have had to file for insolvency.
The bus company with around 200 vehicles operates the bus lines in the largest district in Germany in terms of area, but which is also sparsely populated. There are depots in Demmin, Friedland near Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz and Waren an der Müritz.
