Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: MV police are increasingly controlling priority rules

Rostock/Schwerin/Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - At the beginning of 2023, the police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are particularly examining compliance with the right-of-way rules. The reason for this is several serious accidents, most recently in December 2022 near Sembzin (Mecklenburg Lake District), as a spokeswoman for the Neubrandenburg police headquarters said on Wednesday. Officers will be on the road to all eight police stations in the Northeast throughout January.

In Sembzin, a 58-year-old driver wanted to turn left onto federal highway 192 on December 22, but overlooked a car that was on the federal highway. Its 21-year-old driver drove unchecked into the driver's side of the woman's car, who died. The 21-year-old was seriously injured.

Violations of the right-of-way rules, together with speeding and drink-driving, are the most common causes of serious accidents. Most recently, there were around 54,000 accidents with 68 deaths in MV in 2021. The figures for 2022 are not yet complete. In the north-east, the police check certain focal points on a monthly basis, the campaign is called "Driving. Arriving. Living"
