Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Property tax reform: Only one in five has given up

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Four weeks before the end of the submission deadline for the declarations on the property tax reform, only 21 percent of the owners in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have complied with this obligation. As the Ministry of Finance in Schwerin announced on Tuesday, the inquiries in the tax offices are increasing "in some cases significantly" as the submission deadline is approaching. As a result, the waiting times on the phone have become longer. In order to shorten it, more staff will now be deployed there.

The tax offices could also offer extended contact options with immediate effect. Citizens have the opportunity to visit the tax offices without an appointment Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Since Tuesday, a nationwide property tax information hotline has also been activated on 0385/588 11345. It is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The property tax return is considered complicated. Some feel overwhelmed by this, especially since it should always be submitted digitally.

According to the Ministry of Finance, around 190,000 declarations to determine the property tax value have been received by the state's tax offices so far. That corresponds to a share of 21 percent. About 9800 declarations were submitted in paper form, which is only allowed in exceptional cases.
