Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The deadline for submitting property tax returns has expired in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and will not be extended. The Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday in Schwerin that 495,700 declarations had been received electronically by the tax offices. This corresponds to an acceptance rate of 69 percent. In addition, there are documents submitted in the same way, which could increase the rate by 5 to 10 percentage points.
The ministry ruled out extending the deadline. After the nationwide extension in October, a further postponement would jeopardize the timely implementation of the reform. The Ministry of Finance wants to ensure that property tax can continue to be levied from 2025, which is an important source of income for cities and municipalities.
