Laage/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the north and west of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 16 road bridges have been checked for stability since Monday. As a spokesman for the State Office for Road Construction said, these are "regular main tests" with a special vehicle, which are scheduled every six years and are scheduled to last until September 9th. The road bridges to be examined on federal and state roads are in three of the six districts in the north-east: in the district of Rostock, where the tests began on Monday in Laage on the B108, as well as in Northwest Mecklenburg and Ludwigslust-Parchim.
The special vehicle can use an attached boom to lift a twelve meter long working bridge under the bridges so that the underside can be examined in detail. Motorists must reckon with half-way traffic routing via a construction traffic light. The busy state road 21 near Klockenhagen east of Rostock, the federal road 104 in Schönberg and Gadebusch and the B195 in Bandekow via the Sude and Dömitz via the Elde are also affected.
The road construction and traffic administration is responsible for 360 bridges on federal roads and 281 bridges on state roads in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which is rich in water. According to the Schwerin Ministry of Economic Affairs, 53 such bridge structures in the north-east are to be renovated by 2035 for a total of 82 million euros.
