Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Train cancellations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania extended for weeks

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Train travelers will have to be prepared for train cancellations on several local transport routes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the coming week. According to its own statements, Deutsche Bahn is now canceling trains on the RE5 Stralsund - Neustrelitz, RE7 Stralsund - Greifswald and RB17 Wismar - Ludwigslust routes until September. Increased sick leave is given as the reason. The 9-euro ticket, which is valid until the end of August, also influences personnel planning, it said.

A small improvement is in sight for the RE4 Pasewalk - Ueckermünde Stadthafen. More trains will be running there again from Monday, according to the Deutsche Bahn website. In the morning hours, however, six connections were still canceled and were replaced by buses. This should initially apply until September 4th.

Between Wismar and Ludwigslust, there are still eleven daily connections Monday to Friday. There have been deletions there since July 25th - probably until September 2nd. Deutsche Bahn recommends using the competitor Odeg's trains, which run every two hours on the same route.

For the canceled trains between Stralsund and Neustrelitz, the railway refers to the trains that continue to run from or to Berlin. There have been failures between Stralsund and Neustrelitz since August 1st.

The Pro Bahn passenger association is dissatisfied with the situation. "It's not an advertisement for local public transport," said state chairman Marcel Drews of the German Press Agency on Thursday. A request to the Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (VMV) as to whether this was involved was made a few days ago. An answer has not yet been received. The VMV orders the connections for local transport from the railway companies.

The VMV is in contact with Deutsche Bahn, said a spokeswoman for the German Press Agency. Unperformed journeys would not be paid for by the state.
