Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Unknown steal 2600 liters of diesel from beet machines

Crivitz/Loitz (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, thieves have again stolen several thousand liters of diesel fuel. Two semitrailer trucks in Crivitz near Schwerin and sugar beet harvesters near Loitz (West Pomerania-Greifswald) were affected, as police spokesman said on Monday.

In Crivitz, the truck drivers noticed on Saturday that strangers had tampered with the tanks of the vehicles parked in an industrial area at night. Around 1300 liters of fuel were tapped there. Thieves stole the same amount of diesel from agricultural machinery in a field near Düvier near Loitz on the night of October 21. The police are hoping for witnesses who might have noticed larger vehicles transporting the loot in the regions.

The total damage is estimated at several thousand euros, since parts of the tank containers were also damaged. Diesel cost around 2.23 euros per liter at petrol stations in the northeast on Monday morning. In the southwestern part of Mecklenburg around Crivitz, such fuel thefts from trucks have been increasing since the end of March.
