At the end of the 1980s, the film "The Naked Gun" caused enthusiasm with a high density of gags and slapstick - and became a classic. Two sequels followed, then it was over - but now there should be a new edition. Action star Liam Neeson could also play a role in it.
Almost 30 years after the third and so far last part of the "Naked Gun" series, a new edition of the slapstick directed by Akiva Schaffer ("Hot Rod - Mit Vollgas durch die Hölle") is now planned. The 44-year-old US director and the Paramount studio wanted to bring the 70-year-old action hero Liam Neeson ("Taken") in front of the camera, the industry portals "Variety" and "Hollywood Reporter" report. Negotiations would go ahead. Comedian Seth MacFarlane is on board as a producer.
In the three films "The Naked Gun" (1988), "The Naked Gun 2½" (1991) and "The Naked Gun 33⅓" (1994), Leslie Nielsen, who died in 2010, played the prime role of the goofy policeman Frank Drebin. Priscilla Presley also took part. Nothing is known about the content of the planned new edition.
Born in Northern Ireland, Neeson ("Schindler's List") has recently been subscribed to action roles, such as the "96 Hours" trilogy and films such as "Run All Night", "Men in Black: International" and "Blacklight".
Neeson himself fueled speculation about a remake of Naked Gun earlier this year after revealing on People (the TV Show!) that MacFarlane and Paramount had approached him about a potential remake. "This will either end my career or take it in a different direction. I honestly don't know," he joked. It is not yet clear what role he will play in the film.
