Lena Meyer-Landrut has completely canceled her concerts and festivals for the summer. But now their fans can at least look forward to new music. The ESC winner's single "Looking For Love" could be just the right consolation for those who had to do without the live experience.
Musician Lena Meyer-Landrut stands by the decision to cancel her summer tour. "When I've made a decision, I'm very clear about it. Even if the feeling sometimes arises, I always ask myself whether I actually want to be on tour at the moment. And then I can answer that relatively quickly and with a clear gut feeling ." The winner of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) explained in a video two months ago that, given the ongoing corona pandemic, the time was not yet ripe for her to play in full halls. Some fans reacted angrily to this.
"That's okay too. I can't expect understanding from everyone. There are a lot of people, especially children, who have been looking forward to this for a very long time. All I can say is that I'm not doing this out of spite or for anyone to upset."
In addition to the tour dates in Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin, the cancellation also affects the open air events in summer. "Because we don't play the tour, it unfortunately makes absolutely no sense in terms of economics, content and environmental sustainability to play it, which hurts and saddens me a lot," Meyer-Landrut continues.
This Friday she released her new single "Looking For Love". In the new song, the singer combines modern pop vibes with funky urban and dance influences. "The lyrics say: 'we're all getting tired fighting fire with fire until we find the answer'. It doesn't make sense to want to fight fire with fire," Meyer-Landrut explains the spiritual message of her new single. "Basically, we are all looking for the same things: for love, for something good, positive and beautiful," says the ESC winner. "Each and every one of us wants to be happy and loved."
"But negative experiences and emotions sometimes act like a poison that paralyzes us and makes us bitter," Meyer-Landrut continues. "Only those who give love will also receive love. If we all acted accordingly, this world would certainly be a little bit better."
In addition, Meyer-Landrut is currently celebrating a viral hit in Japan with her song "Life Was A Beach" from 2019. Users post videos on the TikTok platform in which they perform a specific choreography to the summer song with their hands. "It's crazy and a total parallel world. I can hardly believe it because it's so far away and doesn't feel like it is in our reality," said the singer, who grew up in Hanover, about her unexpected success.
