North Rhine-Westphalia: After an explosives alarm: Solingen admitted to psychiatry

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The 23-year-old from Solingen, who appeared at a police station with a homemade explosive device, has been admitted to a psychiatric ward. A police spokesman announced this on Thursday on request.

The man had triggered several operations on Wednesday night. In the federal police station at the main train station, he reported himself: he wanted to damage a school building.

When officers searched him, they found a pipe bomb in his pocket and called in explosives experts from the State Criminal Police Office. Short-term lockdown measures occurred during the investigation.

According to initial findings, the explosive device posed no danger to the school. The amount of black powder used was probably far too small for this. However, more precise analyzes should reveal more details.

After the man's statements, the Düsseldorf police decided to search the secondary school with sniffer dogs before school even started. However, nothing dangerous was discovered.
