"Cardinal Woelki himself was involved in the decision of the Permanent Council and wants to implement it," said the archdiocese on Wednesday. Cologne was actively involved in the reform of ecclesiastical labor law. The plenary assembly of the Association of German Dioceses decided on Tuesday to change the so-called "Basic Order of Church Service". Among other things, the reform strengthens the rights of queer people.
The German Bishops' Conference (DBK) had declared that diversity in church institutions was recognized as an enrichment. "All employees, regardless of their specific tasks, their origin, their religion, their age, their disability, their gender, their sexual identity and their way of life can be representatives of God's unconditional love and thus of a church that serves people." The only condition is "a positive attitude and openness towards the message of the gospel".
