Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - High schools and comprehensive schools in North Rhine-Westphalia continue to have the largest classes on average. An average of 26.8 students learned there in the past school year 2021/22 in a class, as the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday. The average class size at Hauptschulen was 20.3 students and at Realschulen 26.7.

In 2021/2022, an average of 23.5 students were learning in one class at primary schools in NRW. On average, there were 15.7 students per teacher. The numbers roughly correspond to the level of the 2020/21 school year.

The lowest class sizes at primary schools nationwide were recorded in Hallenberg in the Hochsauerland district with an average of (19.1 students per class), Kall in the Euskirchen district (19.3) and Horstmar in the Steinfurt district (19.4). The largest primary school classes were in Datteln (26, 1), Monheim am Rhein (25.9) and Herne (25.9).
