Essen (dpa / lnw) - Black ice and storms have led to several accidents on the streets of North Rhine-Westphalia at night. In Meinerzhagen (Märkischer Kreis), the driver of a gritter was slightly injured when it overturned, the police said. In Kierspe, also in the Märkisches Kreis, a driver slipped when getting out after hitting a garbage can with his car. In total, the police in the district counted about 20 accidents due to ice on Monday night.

According to a spokeswoman for the situation center in Düsseldorf, the majority of accidents in the country were only damage to the bodywork. This was also reported by the police in the Warendorf district. In the Wesel district, a woman was slightly injured in a car accident, according to the local police. In the district area, there were a total of five traffic accidents during the night due to ice. According to their own statements, the rescue service was called to more than 20 operations in Bonn. In almost all cases, these were people who had slipped on the black ice.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the danger of black ice will decrease again during the day. In Düsseldorf, the schools and daycare centers will remain closed on Monday due to the storm warning, as the city announced on Sunday evening. Emergency care is provided.
