North Rhine-Westphalia: Emperor Barbarossa in Munster: show with valuable loans

Münster (dpa / lnw) - To mark the 900th birthday of the Staufer Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa, an exhibition with many valuable loans will be launched in Münster this Friday. In the LWL Museum for Art and Culture, the show "Barbarossa. The Art of Rule" traces the life and work of the dazzling figure.

"The historical figure Barbarossa is no longer known to everyone," said the director of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL), Georg Lunemann. "With its 150 exhibits, the exhibition is intended to close gaps in knowledge and at the same time to clear up prejudices about the supposedly so gloomy Middle Ages."

The focus of the show is on the historical figure of Barbarossa as Emperor of the German-Roman Empire and his work through the art of the 12th century. It is spread over two locations - it is already running at Cappenberg Castle in Selm in the Unna district. Loans from London, Paris and Copenhagen will now also be on view in Münster until the beginning of February 2023.
