North Rhine-Westphalia: Fewer building permits in the first three quarters

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The building authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia issued 1.3 percent fewer building permits for apartments in the first three quarters of 2022 than in the corresponding period of the previous year. A total of 46,200 apartments were approved, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Düsseldorf. New residential construction fell by 3.2 percent to 39,200. The expansion of existing residential buildings, for example in the attics, increased by 14.8 percent to 6,100. A further 900 apartments were planned in so-called non-residential buildings.

In the case of new residential construction, the statisticians registered a sharp decline in the number of approved single-family houses. The number there fell by 14.5 percent to 8,700. The number of permits for two-family houses also fell, by 6.7 percent to 3,200. Around a third of the approved apartments are to be built in the urban districts, the remaining two-thirds in the circles.
