North Rhine-Westphalia: Investigations after a fire with eight injuries are ongoing

Datteln (dpa / lnw) - After the fire in an apartment building in Datteln (Recklinghausen district) with eight injured, the police investigation into suspected arson is continuing. The scene of the fire was examined more closely on Monday, the police said. Whether the fire was caused intentionally or negligently on Sunday night was initially left open.

When a stack of car tires caught fire in the basement of the house, eight people, including two children, suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital. Because the possibility of self-ignition could be ruled out in this case, the police had started investigations into arson, and a murder commission had been set up. The police now put the property damage at around 100,000 euros, the house is currently uninhabitable.
