North Rhine-Westphalia: Minister of Finance submits budget for 2023 to the state parliament

The black-green state government has not been in office for long, and now it is introducing a budget draft marked by many crises to the state parliament. The Ministry of Education will therefore receive 22 billion euros.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the midst of an explosion in energy costs and high inflation, the still young black-green government in North Rhine-Westphalia is presenting its first draft budget in the state parliament. Finance Minister Marcus Optendrenk will present the coalition's calculations and priorities for the coming year in Düsseldorf on Wednesday (from 10 a.m.). The CDU politician recently described the draft passed by the cabinet as a preliminary "basic budget" in which there are still great imponderables on the revenue and expenditure side. It was shaped by the consequences of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the energy crisis, interest rate increases and the corona pandemic.

The effects of the federal government's third tax relief package worth billions and the results of the autumn tax estimate have not yet been taken into account in the NRW calculations. The draft for 2023 includes more than 93 billion euros. With almost 22 billion euros, the Ministry of Education has the largest share for a single ministry. The municipalities are to receive a total of a good 15 billion euros from the state. The budget should be approved before Christmas.
