North Rhine-Westphalia: No process: ex-police chief accepts the fine

Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - The Düsseldorf district court does not have to deal with the question of whether the former Gelsenkirchen police chief Britta Zur drove through a traffic light when it was red. As Zur announced on Tuesday at the request of the German Press Agency, she has withdrawn the objection she had raised against the fine notice. An identity expert should have clarified in the oral hearing scheduled for next Monday whether the speed camera photo really shows the locally prominent lawyer at the wheel of her private car.

At noon on April 7, 2022, as the then acting police chief of Gelsenkirchen, Zur is said to have crossed an intersection at the Düsseldorf Nordstern when the traffic light was red. On that day, she was elected deputy for sports and citizen services in the Düsseldorf exhibition hall by the city council meeting there.

According to the Düsseldorf district court, the 42-year-old was fined 99 euros, but not banned from driving. Including fees, the ex-police chief has to pay 127.50 euros. In the current case, it was just a simple red light violation, the district court emphasized when asked. "They disregarded the red light of the traffic light system," says the notice against which Zur had appealed.

Britta Zur was a member of the Düsseldorf judiciary for more than twelve years, first as a judge and finally as a public prosecutor. At the beginning of 2020, she took over the management of the police force in Gelsenkirchen. Since last August she has been the councilor for sports and citizen services in Düsseldorf.
