North Rhine-Westphalia: Pediatric video consultation over Christmas

Many pediatric practices are currently overloaded. Over the Christmas holidays, an additional service is now intended to provide initial orientation in cases of illness.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In view of overcrowded pediatrician practices, the North Rhine Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians is setting up video consultations for the upcoming public holidays. Parents of sick children can contact a pediatrician directly and easily to get an initial medical assessment, the KVNO said. It should also be clarified whether a visit to a children's emergency service practice is necessary. Further details are to be communicated on Tuesday.

The Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVWL) is now planning to relieve the pediatric emergency service over the public holidays until mid-January. It is therefore planned that some resident pediatricians and general practitioners will also open. A spokesman announced that organizational arrangements were still being made for this.

Many children's practices and children's wards are currently extremely overcrowded. Experts are reporting an enormous wave of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections, which can be dangerous for babies.
