North Rhine-Westphalia: pensioners attacked and injured on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A drug addict injured a pensioner on the Rhine promenade in Düsseldorf and stole his jacket. The Düsseldorf district court sentenced the 30-year-old to one and a half years in prison without parole. The magistrate found him guilty of robbery and dangerous bodily harm on Tuesday, a court spokeswoman said.

At the end of May, the man attacked the 72-year-old walker on the banks of the Rhine from behind to rip his jacket off his body. The pensioner resisted, a scuffle ensued, during which the senior fell, hit his face and suffered a graze. The 30-year-old snatched his jacket and fled.

He confessed to the crime and blamed his drug addiction in court. With a year and a half in prison, the judge exceeded the 15-month penalty demanded by the public prosecutor. The judgment is final. The convict, who has no permanent residence and was in custody, remained behind bars.
