North Rhine-Westphalia: the police take positive stock of the Rose Monday trains

The police didn't quite know what to expect after two years of carnival abstinence. After all, in addition to a lot of good mood, there were fewer incidents than before the Corona period.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The police have drawn a positive balance for the Rose Monday parades in the Rhineland. They were mostly peaceful and without incident. In Düsseldorf, the police only had to issue 23 places with an estimated 600,000 revelers. In 2020 there were 40. Four people were taken into custody.

In the Viersen district, the police also reported for the two larger Rose Monday trains through Kempen and Viersen-Dülken that it had remained relatively quiet. In Kempen, the emergency services issued ten referrals, one person had to be taken into custody.

In Viersen-Dülken, the emergency services issued 29 places and took seven people into custody. There were eight reports of bodily harm, one for insult and one for damage to property. It was a "quite peaceful Rose Monday in the Viersen district".

In Cologne, a 30-year-old was slightly injured in the neck and taken to the hospital in a dispute on the sidelines of the Rose Monday procession. According to the police, the costumed man from Cologne was probably attacked with a knife by a previously unknown person.

Only in Voerde, Lower Rhine, did an 83-year-old driver cause a stir on the sidelines of the carnival parade on Sunday. The man broke through blocking points at high speed by avoiding blockades from patrol cars on the sidewalk, the Wesel police reported on Tuesday. He ignored the stop signals and headed for the carnival parade. A transverse truck finally stopped him.

In Aachen, the police also drew a positive conclusion. The total number of incidents remained below the reports from 2020. There was a fight on the sidelines of the Rose Monday procession, during which a can was thrown at a person's head. Several people got into a violent argument in front of a hotel, in which one person was injured by pepper spray.

Thousands of revelers celebrated peacefully at the Rose Monday procession in Bonn. In the course of the large-scale operation, five people were taken into custody who were either drunk, had rioted or had not complied with one of the twelve orders issued.

According to preliminary findings, the officials had made 16 criminal charges by late Monday evening, ten of them for bodily harm. Two cases are being investigated for resisting or assaulting law enforcement officials. In Mönchengladbach, the fools only get going on this Shrove Tuesday. "Gladbach is on cloud nine (2.0)" is the motto from 1:11 p.m.
