North Rhine-Westphalia: Unknown destroy art installation for peace

Dortmund (dpa / lnw) - Unknown people destroyed an art installation for peace with 1000 sandbags in front of Dortmund City Hall. The installation, which weighs several tons and is around four meters high, was erected by students at the University of Applied Sciences in protest against the Russian war of aggression. A student involved in the project observed the attack via a webcam in the city on Tuesday night, Westdeutscher Rundfunk reported. A police spokesman said when asked by the dpa that it was still unclear who was behind the crime. It is being investigated for property damage.

According to the police, the student observed up to ten suspects via webcam. They climbed onto the sandbags that were piled up around the so-called Peace Column on the square in front of the town hall. Some sacks were pulled out, causing the tower to collapse. According to WDR, the students wanted to quickly rebuild the installation.
