North Rhine-Westphalia: Wheelchair users robbed: two years in prison for the accused

Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - Because he robbed a defenseless wheelchair user, a 36-year-old man has to go to prison for two years. The district court in Krefeld came to this verdict without probation on Friday. The presiding judge spoke of a senseless act and called it "extremely vile".

The accused had previously admitted the crime four months ago and said: "It's the worst thing I've ever done, I don't know what got into me."

According to his own statement, on the evening of June 7, he followed the severely disabled and spastically paralyzed victim into the elevator of a multi-storey apartment building in Krefeld. On the fourth floor, the helpless 61-year-old man had violently pulled the wallet out of his fanny pack and stole 200 euros. "He gave me back the wallet and fled," said the 61-year-old as a witness in the process.

The accused, who had several previous convictions, was later arrested because surveillance cameras in the elevator had recorded the crime. The 36-year-old had been released from prison just under a year earlier. He was still on probation at the time of the crime. After consulting his lawyer, he accepts the verdict.
